CREB (Calgary Real Estate Board) is encouraged by City Council’s decision Monday to expedite the process for approving secondary suites in R2 areas of the city (single-detached, semi-detached and duplex dwellings) as well as engage in further study.
Instead of passing motion which would have allowed secondary suites in all neighbourhoods that currently allow only single-family occupancy homes, aldermen asked administration to study the viability of legalizing secondary suites. A report on these findings will come before council in December 2011.
CREB and other business, social agencies and student associations support secondary suites in all residential neighbourhoods, provided certain conditions are met. For more details on CREB’s position regarding secondary suites go to CREB’s website or click here for the direct link.
